When Mrs. Bonnie Lauton retired at the culmination of the 2015-2016 school year, she wanted to leave something behind to honor the students she worked with for so many years. Bonnie, our longtime school psychologist, initiated an effort to include a new "buddy bench" on our playground. On Wednesday, we celebrated the inclusion of the new bench on our playground. No child should be alone at recess. Read more about the "buddy bench" concept by clicking here!

HFD Weekly Blog - March 30, 2017 Second Edition!

April 12th Early Dismissal Day

The district has used a total of four inclement/emergency days.  Since we only have three days built into the district calendar, we must add another day.  Therefore, school will be in session on Wednesday, April 12th.  This day will be a two hour early dismissal in place of the two hour early dismissal that was canceled on our last snow day.

Rock 'n' Roll Reading Night 2017 - A New Format Begins!

Rock 'n' Roll Reading night is one of those events that makes Hereford Elementary School a special place to learn and grow.  This year, the format has changed with the input of our PTFS and our grades three, four and five student councils.

Why do we do Rock 'n' Roll Reading Night?  We want to:
  • Celebrate the Hereford Elementary students that have worked hard to complete their fall and winter reading logs by creating an evening of fun activities with our local businesses and student organizations;
  • Provide an opportunity for our local businesses and student organizations to develop and support relationships with our families; and
  • Showcase community-based opportunities available to our students so they may become involved with structured activities beyond the normal school day.

Who comes to Rock 'n' Roll Reading Night?
Only eligible Hereford K-5 students who complete their fall and winter reading logs will receive an invitation.  Those children must bring an adult to participate in the evening.  Siblings or other family members cannot attend unless they have completed their logs and have received an invitation.

What will happen at Rock 'n' Roll Reading night?
Invitees and their adult chaperone are welcome to bring their own dinner to start the evening.  The meal will be held in our cafeteria.  As dinner winds down, the real fun begins!  We will have a DJ, a photo booth and a petting zoo to name a few of the exciting activities.  Most activities will be located outside on the playground area to provide a carnival-like atmosphere.

A Note of Thanks from the Joint UPSD PTFS

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year’s Harlem Wizards’ event a rousing success!   Whether you played on the All-Stars team, worked the event, or attended the game, we are grateful for your support.

Nearly 1,400 community members attended the Wizards’ games, and the Joint PTFS earned approximately $12,000, all of which will directly benefit our elementary and middle school students.  An event of this size truly cannot take place without individuals such as you, and the time and effort you offered is greatly appreciated.

No Dogs Allowed At Parent Pick-Up

We love dogs! In fact, over the last several years, we have partnered with an amazing community volunteer group named "Reading With The Dogs". Each week, emergent readers are paired with therapy dogs and their handlers to read together.

We realize that dogs are a true member of many of our families. They go with us everywhere. However, for reasons of safety and security, please do not bring your dog into the school or allow them out of your car at any time. We have received several concerns about dogs coming to parent pick-up each afternoon. If they make they trip with you to the building, please leave your dog in the car.
