Mrs. Reichenbach was surprised with a 10th anniversary celebration.

The Hereford Quilters

The quilting club celebrates a milestone while doing what it does best - supporting our community.

The Hereford Quilters have been busy.  On March 28th, they made a special delivery to Lehigh Valley Hospital.  In total, 13 Hereford Quilters were able to help make the delivery.
Thirty-two small baby quilts and fifty-four small Teddy Bears were delivered to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  The bears were requested from the NICU nurses that the Quilters met during their first delivery of baby quilts in January of 2013.  The bears are put under the premature babies from their nose to their stomach.  The babies hug the small bears while they sleep.  The Quilters were able to take a tour of the NICU and got to see how the babies are cared for and even saw some babies ready to be discharged.
The Quilters then got to see the Children’s ER.  Grace Lingenfelter, a founding member of the Hereford Quilters ten years ago, delivered bears she made for a Community Service Project.  She made thirteen Abbie Bears for the NICU and thirteen Teddy Bears for the Children’s ER.
In addition to all of this excitement, the 10th anniversary celebration of the Hereford Quilters took place on March 31st.  This was a total surprise for Mrs. Reichenbach and included current and former quilters.  It is estimated that over 200 students have been a “Hereford Quilter” in our ten years of existence.   The Quilters, and Mrs. Reichenbach, make us all Hereford Proud!

In Our Classrooms

A variety of great things are happening across the school.

The PSSA testing season began with our annual “Clapping Parade” on Monday, April 11.  Kindergarten through second grade lined the hallway to encourage our third, fourth and fifth grade test takers.  Each K-2 classroom has paired with a 3-5 room as a “buddy”.  The K-2 students are providing songs, cards and words of encouragement for their older peers throughout the testing window.

The fourth graders participated in an assembly organized by Mrs. Kulp during the week of April 11th.  Mrs. Maggie Buckwalter from the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center met with each class to learn more about colonial America.

Get Set for Kindergarten!  Our kindergarten teachers, along with Mrs. Miller, Mr. Bibus, Ms. McGovern and Mrs. Arnold piloted a new way to get our incoming kindergarten students and families ready for the 2016-2017 school year. More than fifty of our families participated in these after school opportunities focused on developing an understanding of kindergarten routines and academic expectations.
